About Web Font Survey

Those, and a lot more questions related to web fonts are asked by designers all around. But nobody really knows the answers.

Since Web 2.0 is here, screen resolutions are getting higher and a lot of good fonts is distributed with software, the assumption that we shall use only those boring eight fonts is probably wrong. I hope.

What is Web Font Survey?

Web Font Survey is small web application collecting into database data related to browser, operating system and installed fonts. The data will be processed on a separate machine, and the survey results will be published on the project page, available for everyone.

There’s also it’s pal — FontList — web application listing all installed fonts, great for printing all installed fonts. You can use it offline and edit CSS&JS to suit your needs.

How it works?

You probably noticed, all the text is selectable, and the header font is not typical. I use small Flash application with function TextField.getFontList(); to detect all fonts installed on your computer, and then, the header uses randomly chosen one.

Privacy policy

We do not have any access to your font files or any files at all. Font list is a system property and it’s public since you have Flash installed. We do not store any information than the ones sent in the survey. Your IP address is logged in a standard web server statistics.

Who does it?

This font survey is brought to you by TAAT Digital Technologies lead by a Polish web typographer – Tomek Pęszor.
